New Concepts for trans-European rail freight services Print

In the framework of the 6th Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration (RTD): 'Integrating and strengthening the European Research Area', The European Commission has launched a call for proposals for indirect RTD. The call was published in the Official Journal on July 8, 2005 and is addressing a couple of research objectives. The total indicative budget is Euro 214 million of which Euro 36 million are foreseen for 'Sustainable surface transport'. Among other tasks in the objective 3: 'Re-balancing and integrating different transport modes' the European Commission calls for proposal with respect to 'New Concepts for trans-European rail freight services'.

Since the TREND-Project has already been awarded as a Coordination Action (CA) in this topic, the follow-up will be one or more Integrated Project(s) (IP) clearly focusing on establishing and demonstrating a business solution pertained to management and operational models involving all stakeholders for launching seamless freight services in (at least two) trans-European corridors, and create the conditions for an efficient supply of (intermodal) freight services and for their field validation.

The closing date for submitting proposals for this specific topic was the 22nd December 2005 at 17:00 (Brussels local time).

In its function as a Coordination Action, TREND had offered a particular service for stakeholders in the rail freight business, that are addressed by the Call in order to coordinate the activities and ideas, provided through this focused channel.
